The Learning Curve Training Options

How Can TLC Help you Learn Brain Training?

Brain training offers us the power to change how we think, learn, feel, perform, control and see the world. The hardware and software to access this power have never been more affordable and friendly. However, there is still a significant learning curve a new trainer must climb to truly fulfill the promise of brain training. The TLC system is based on the belief that there are Seven Skills of the Brain Trainer which should be a part of any new trainer’s education—whether you plan to work with clients professionally, on your own brain or with members of your family.

Since 1994, TLC’s mission has been to make brain training accessible to those who wish to learn it. We select excellent low-cost hardware and software, sell at a discount, provide support before, during and after the sale, and teach new and experienced trainers an approach that is practical, systematic, cost-effective, client-oriented and based on actual measurement of the brain. From 2003-2006 TLC provided hundreds of hand-on, small-group onsite workshops across the US and in 11 nations on 5 continents. These helped many trainers get started with—or become more sophisticated in—their training of brains. They also helped us to better understand the needs and questions of those we trained—and the limitations of the onsite workshop.

TLC has shifted its training focus since early 2007 to providing materials that trainers can use in their own homes and offices, without traveling and taking time away from work and home. This new approach allows students to review the full workshop materials as many times as they wish—rather than having to get all the information in an 8 hour training day.

Online workshops

Presently we are offering online workshops with most of our titles. They require a high speed internet connection. On the day of the meeting, each participant goes to a website and phones a conference number. All participants are able to hear and speak to all others, and all are able to see the same screen.

There are normally 6-10 participants who meet for several two hour sessions, scheduled once a week. You have time to assimilate and experiment with the material from one session before attending the next session. You also save travel costs and time. Session recordings are included with most workshops.

Online workshops are scheduled as the interest arises. Current offerings are listed in the Workshop Schedule. The best way to keep up on what workshops may be offered or to request that we offer one is to join the braintrainer list-serve. It is an active list of over 1000 professionals and hometrainers.

Basic Brain-Training Skills Videos

Currently we have available a 50 minute video, Finding Sites, which illustrates finding braintraining sites using the international 10/20 system.

We are producing two other videos in this Basic Skills series, which teaches the critical hands-on skills. Other series in development include Demonstration Videos, which allow students to “sit in” and watch an experienced trainer perform a TLC assessment or a training session with HEG or EEG, and Workshop Videos, which provide the didactic material usually included in our workshops. Our goal is, by early 2009, to have completed this ambitious project.

The video series is set up, as TLC workshops always have been, in modular format, so trainers can purchase only what they need when they need it. We will offer packages of videos for those who want a more complete set with a pricing discount. We are working with providers in other languages to translate the TLC video series into German, Portuguese, Spanish and other languages, making them accessible to trainers around the world.

Individual Consultation

TLC still offers our free TLC Assessment package, which gives a procedure for performing an assessment and a tool for analyzing the data. You may find that you need support with the assessment or in other areas, as you are getting started, or further on in your training. We offer three additional training options: 1) Individual Training and Conference, where users with fast internet connections can go online with an experienced support person, verify that their hardware and software have been properly set up, get answers to their questions about how to run sessions or troubleshoot their systems; 2) an individual workshop on Building Your Dream Practice; and 3) an Assessment Service that analyzes your assessment data and suggests training plans. I enjoyed studying
with one of the “masters” of our field. You really are making a significant contribution to this work. I returned home charged up, better able to articulate the work I am doing, and with my tools sharpened.

Your delivery of instruction was some of the best that I have experienced through my training in management and in the military. You could easily teach instructional methodology.

Great workshop. No one should be doing neurofeedback without it.

I recently completed the TLC Assessment Workshop. This workshop was so informative and Peter was very patient with those of us that were slightly behind the rest in the group. . . . Peter, thank you again - I admire and respect your knowledge and your willingness to educate in such a kind, gentle, patient manner.
