BioExplorer
BE has revolutionized the low-priced end of the brain training field. This one program allows trainers to work with multiple hardware platforms, including those manufactured by BrainMaster, Minder Labs and WaveRider among others. Trainers can integrate feedback from flash animations and games, MP3's, DVD's, audio CD's, digital videos and MIDI music files to keep clients interested in training—all built in to the program at no additional cost.

The program is capable of performing a broad range of training options, including ratios, percent, amplitudes, coherence, phase, peak frequency, variability and symmetry. It is effectively a trainer's toolkit that gives the trainer control of almost every area of the training challenge and visual and auditory feedback environment.

BioExplorer is continually being updated and improved in response to users' input.

BEYOND AMPLITUDE TRAINING

Often the goal in brain trainng is not to train a particular frequency band, e.g., alpha or beta, up or down, but rather to alter the relationship between two frequency bands, or the same frequency band in two locations.

You might, for example, want to “increase your alpha.” But if you just reward yourself when your alpha amplitude goes up, you may find that the amplitudes of the other frequency bands go up as well. Your brain is doing what you asked, just not quite in the way you intended. However, if your software allows it, you can train up the percent of total EEG power that is alpha power. This will get you closer to what you want.

Other examples of alternatives to amplitude training are training the coherence or synchrony of the EEG between two points and training the stability of the EEG signal by training down variability. Training up alpha coherence is another approach to increasing alpha.

When evaluating software, be sure to ask how many alternatives to amplitude training it offers.
